Tactical K9 Completes four weeks of training for Gallup New Mexico K9 Unit

March 16th, 2011

Last year Tactical K9 was requested to assess and evaluate the Gallup New Mexico K9 Unit. Owner and CEO (Doug Roller) spent one week completing the evaluation as well as some hands on training and problem solving. Follwoing this evaluation Gallup Police Department contracted with the Tactical K9 to provide four weeks of intense K9 training in all areas of Police K9 functions.

The four week training program was completed, which involved the introduction of the E-collar, control work as well as starting off-leash control and tactical searching.  Each week was spaced one week apart as the instruction intensified with Mike Goosby and Jeff Miller taking part in the training. The training included area and building searches as well as narcotics detection work. Other subjects that were covered in the instruction were report writing, record keeping, K9 maintenance, as well as handler selections.  The intense four week training period was completed and all teams were certified for field duties in Patrol and Narcotics Detection.  Tactical K9 will be conitnuing advanced training as well as quarterly certifications for the teams in the months to follow.

Doug Roller has been invited for a second year in a row to conduct K9 training for Brazilian Police and Military personnel. We have been honored again with a request to train and instruct these fine folks. Much thanks goes out to Alessandro Pelletti (owner of Dog Masters) to make this event possible.
