Tactical K9 and Vohne Liche Kennels to Provide E-Collar Workshop on May 14th thru 18th, 2012

January 18th, 2012

This course is designed to provide a basic introduction to the E-collar for the Police Service Dog (PSD) and Military Working Dog (MWD). The E-collar was originally designed to enhance already learned behavior with working canines, providing a means of communicating with the canine in an off-leash capacity. Although E-collar training is aversive in nature, the instruction provided takes great measures to instill the positive methods of dog training, providing proper introduction of the E-collar to the canines already known commands. This was how the E-collar was originally designed to be used. Many PSD and MWD Programs have misused the tool, leaving the untrained trainer / handler with a negative outlook on the device. The system used by Tactical K9 is one that was developed by the Los Angeles Police K9 Platoon.

The owner and founder of Tactical K9 is currently the Chief Trainer for the Los Angeles Police (LAPD) K9 Platoon.  The LAPD has utilized the E-collar for longer than any other police agency in the country. Over the years, coinciding with the E-collars development, methods have been fine tuned to provide the best industry methods for the E-collars introduction as well as advanced tactical canine training for law enforcement and the military communities.   This class takes a step by step approach to the introduction of the E-collar to each specific K9 team.  Although the basic principles of E-collar training are standard in nature, the importance of marrying this tool and its use with each individual K9 team cannot be overstated.  It is this hands on tailored training that Tactical K9 prides itself in.  At the end of each workshop, an evaluation and testing of each individual K9 team will be completed to insure they can “read” and access their assigned canine in order to properly manipulate the E-collar.  With proper introduction to the E-collar each team will have the tools and training to advance in all areas of their required deployment needs.

Doug Roller has been invited for a second year in a row to conduct K9 training for Brazilian Police and Military personnel. We have been honored again with a request to train and instruct these fine folks. Much thanks goes out to Alessandro Pelletti (owner of Dog Masters) to make this event possible.
